MAC Concealers: Studio Finish vs. Pro Longwear

I'm always struggling with concealer.. All I want is a full coverage concealer for both my under eye area and my face.. Seriously, is that too much to ask for?

I expressed my love for the MAC Studio Finish concealer here.. Loved that it's full coverage without looking TOO cakey.. However, I totally forgot that once upon a time, before my lovely sweet sister stole it, I really enjoyed MAC Pro Longwear concealer.. So re-purchased it.. And here are my thoughts on both..

Studio Finish

- SPF35
- Full Coverage
- Easy to blend
- Thick consistency
- Can look cakey and drying if too much is applied
- Slight creasing occurs when used under the eyes
- Dark circles and acne scars start to slowly re-appear during the day
- Must be powdered

Pro Longwear

- Medium coverage
- Liquid formula
- Easy to blend
- Dries to a matte finish
- Doesn't need to be powdered
- Doesn't budge all day
- Never looks cakey
- No creasing when used under the eyes
- Dries quickly so you have to work fast with it

My Final Thoughts: Although it doesn't give as much coverage, the Pro Longwear has become my new favourite concealer for it's long lasting power, brightening effect and ease of use as you don't need to blend it as much the Studio Finish.. I love that at the end of the day, my dark circles are not peeking through.. Really amazing concealer.. I also love it for my face.. It blends in to my skin so beautifully..

What's your favourite MAC concealer?

I use the Select Moisture Cover - but mostly because I don't need full coverage. 8D But we do use the same shade of concealer! I usually go NW35 for foundation - however. I'll have to give one of these two a try for dark spots, where I actually need the coverage!

I currently use studio finish but I don't really like how thick it is and how it looks, I want a more fresh look and pro longwear looks perfect. Great review xx

Ahh yay! Pro longwear concealer is my absolute fav for under the eyes. It's exactly like you said, it lasts all day and brightens and never creases on me. It's a true workhorse!

Totally agree, MAC Pro Longwear is the way to go. But I'm testing out a By Terry concealer and OMG. It's amazing.

Thanks for the comparison - now I know which to try, when I finally make my way to MAC concealers :D

I've never actually tried MAC concealers, but I'm always struggling to find a good one. The pro longwear sounds good, I might have to check it out. I'm currently using Maybelline Mousse concealer which is good, but can look cakey if not careful.

@Eden-Avalon - I've tried te select moisture too.. Found that it was too light of a coverage.. But ya give the pro longwear a go.. U wont regret it ;)

@Lauren Rose - Thanks hun.. Yah do try pro longwear.. It's really lovely

@Danielle - It issss! It was you who actually reminded me of it so I had to go grab me some =P

@Tracy@Beauty Reflections - Really?! I wanted to try that but wasn't sure about the coverage.. Cant wait to read ur review on it my dear enabler ;)

@Larie - Glad I could help hun =)

@Makeup and Macaroons - Pro longwear is the way to go.. The coverage is not bad and the longevity is amazing.. Plus I haven't found that it looks cakey at all.. Even when I layer it on

Awesome review!

I own and love the Studio Finish concealer, but I'm always willing to try out new concealers.

I haven't tried the Pro Longwear, can it be built to full coverage? Or say, if I use a thin layer of a heavy coverage concealer under my eyes and Pro Longwear over top of it to seal it would it crease?

LauraSummer said...

I love both of these concealers, I'm inbetween shades for pro longwear now though :( love your photos if them- they look so clear and professional x

Delyteful Speaks said...

@Nora Schu - I do find it to be buildable which is why I'm enjoying coz I do need a ful coverage concealer myself.. What I'd do is apply the pro longwear first.. Build it up a little then if you still feel you need more coverage, you can apply a tiny bit of the studio finish.. That way, the Studio finish won't look so cakey.. Hope this helps

@LauraSummer - Awww thanks hun.. Appreciate that =)

Believe it or not I have actually never used any MAC skin products, except for Prep+Prime! I would like to try out their concealer though, I always hear good things!!

Pro Longwear! Pro Longwear! :)

I'm a huge fan as you can tell, especially when it's layered over MAC Prep+Prime Highlighter in Bright Forecast. Best combo ever for under eyes. ;) You have to try it.

I really like Studio Finish concealer, this has made me want to try the Pro Longwear concealer though as I do find Studio Finish can look a bit thick xxx

Been hunting for a concealer all this time, and thanks to your post, I've found the perfect one: the Pro Longwear. Thanks.

Wow, the Pro Longwear one almost sounds too good to be true! I have been trying to find one that doesn't crease for ages so this will be the next on my list :)

@Fatima - Yay! Finding the right concealer is so important!

@Beauty Mish Mash - Yah I can't stand concealers that crease! Luckily this doesn't at all!

My friend also recommended me MAC concealers because it gives you an awesome finish. I was using a different brand of concealer for my eyes. I'll definitely buy one this weekend.

My favourite MAC concealer is the Studio Finish, it has the best coverage. It covers up literally everything although it can be too much at some times and you really have to blend it well. It's not the best concealer for under the eyes though, since it's very thick.
